Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Clinical Psychologist to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team at Karoi District Hospital. This pivotal full-time role involves providing expert psychological assessment, diagnosis, formulation, and intervention for individuals across the lifespan presenting with a broad spectrum of mental health challenges and psychological distress. The successful candidate will play a critical role in enhancing the mental well-being of our community, working with patients facing various conditions including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma-related disorders, severe mental illnesses, and psychological aspects of chronic physical health conditions.

You will be instrumental in developing and implementing evidence-based therapeutic programs, conducting individual and group therapy sessions, and offering psychoeducation to patients and their families. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy).
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions for patients with diverse mental health needs.
  • Offer crisis intervention and psychological support to patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of mental health promotion and prevention programs within the hospital and community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with professional and ethical standards.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development, and relevant training.
  • Provide consultation and psychoeducation to other hospital staff regarding psychological aspects of patient care.
  • Engage in service evaluation and improvement activities to enhance the quality of psychological services.

Required Skills

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from a recognized institution.
  • Current registration with the Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (AHPCZ) as a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in clinical practice, preferably within a hospital or public health setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for adults, adolescents, and children.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
  • Strong ethical framework and commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in working with underserved populations or in rural healthcare settings.
  • Proficiency in local languages (e.g., Shona, Ndebele) in addition to English.
  • Experience in supervising junior psychologists or interns.
  • Familiarity with public health mental health initiatives and policy development.
  • Training or certification in specialized therapeutic modalities (e.g., trauma-informed care, family therapy).
