Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety programs and policies in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver comprehensive safety training sessions to employees, contractors, and visitors on various topics, including emergency procedures, use of PPE, and hazard communication.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety-related documentation, including incident reports, training logs, inspection findings, and compliance certifications.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and represent the company during H&S inspections or audits.
- Ensure the availability and proper functioning of safety equipment, fire suppression systems, and emergency response tools.
- Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, visible leadership, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with management and departmental heads to integrate safety into all operational processes.
- Stay updated with changes in H&S legislation, standards, and industry best practices to ensure continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Jamaican OHS regulations and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
