Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and patient-focused Pharmacist to join our dedicated team at Pharmacie Nouvelle, located conveniently near Jardin de la Compagnie in Port Louis. This pivotal role involves overseeing the accurate and safe dispensing of prescription medications, providing expert pharmaceutical advice, and ensuring exceptional patient care. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and safely dispense prescription medications and provide professional counseling to patients regarding drug usage, dosage, storage, and potential side effects.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local and national pharmacy laws, regulations, and ethical standards set by the Pharmacy Council of Mauritius.
- Manage and maintain optimal inventory levels of pharmaceutical products, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and conducting regular audits to prevent stockouts and waste.
- Conduct patient consultations, offer informed advice on over-the-counter medications, health supplements, and general wellness practices.
- Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses) to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
- Monitor patient drug profiles for potential adverse drug reactions, contraindications, and drug interactions, intervening as necessary.
- Supervise and provide guidance to pharmacy technicians and support staff, ensuring high standards of service delivery and professional conduct.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and prescription files using the pharmacy's dispensing and patient management system.
- Participate in health promotion activities, vaccination campaigns, and community outreach programs as required.
- Resolve patient queries and complaints professionally, efficiently, and with empathy.
- Stay updated with the latest pharmaceutical advancements, new medications, treatment protocols, and best practices through continuous professional development and ongoing education.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Valid and current registration with the Pharmacy Council of Mauritius.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-registration experience as a practicing Pharmacist, preferably in a fast-paced community pharmacy setting.
- Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, their mechanisms of action, dispensing procedures, and potential drug interactions.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrable patient-centric approach.
- Strong attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to accuracy in all dispensing and record-keeping tasks.
- Proficiency in using pharmacy management software systems and general computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a dynamic, high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Strong ethical standards and an unwavering commitment to patient confidentiality and professional integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related healthcare field.
- Experience with advanced inventory management and pharmaceutical ordering systems.
- Fluency in additional languages such as French and Creole, enhancing communication with our diverse patient base.
- Certifications in specialized areas such as diabetes education, immunisation, medication therapy management, or smoking cessation.
