Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our on-site clinic at the Blanket Mine in Filabusi. This is a crucial role within our healthcare team, responsible for delivering primary care, emergency response, and occupational health services to our valued employees. As an LPN, you will play a vital role in maintaining the health and safety of our workforce, contributing directly to the operational success and well-being of the entire mine community. Your duties will encompass a wide range of clinical activities, from routine health assessments and preventative care to assisting with medical emergencies and managing chronic conditions. You will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, adhering strictly to established medical protocols and company policies. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to mine employees, including general consultations, health assessments, and basic treatment.
- Administer medications and injections as prescribed by a medical doctor, meticulously documenting all procedures.
- Assist medical officers and registered nurses with minor surgical procedures and other complex medical interventions.
- Respond effectively to medical emergencies, providing immediate first aid and stabilization, and assisting with patient transfer when necessary.
- Conduct occupational health surveillance, including pre-employment medicals, periodic health checks, and fitness-for-duty assessments.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, ensuring all medical documentation is up-to-date and compliant with regulations.
- Educate employees on health promotion, disease prevention, and injury management strategies relevant to the mining environment.
- Manage and maintain clinic equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness, sterilization, and adequate stock levels.
- Participate in health and safety committee meetings, contributing to the development and implementation of workplace health initiatives.
- Adhere to all company policies, health and safety regulations, and professional nursing standards.
Required Skills
- Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification/license recognized in Zimbabwe.
- Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in a clinical setting, preferably in an industrial or primary care environment.
- Proficiency in basic life support (BLS) and first aid techniques.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to handle medical emergencies calmly and efficiently.
- Proficient in medical record keeping and basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in occupational health or emergency medical services.
- Additional certifications in advanced first aid, trauma care, or related fields.
- Knowledge of mining industry health and safety regulations.
- Fluency in local languages (e.g., Ndebele, Shona) is an advantage.
