Job Description
Tropical Battery Company Ltd. is actively seeking highly skilled, professional, and safety-conscious Long-Distance Truck Drivers to enhance our robust distribution network, operating from our Mandeville hub. This pivotal full-time role is essential for ensuring the timely and secure transportation of our diverse range of automotive and industrial batteries across Jamaica. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be entrusted with the critical responsibility of navigating various terrains and road conditions, from bustling urban centers to remote rural areas, always upholding the highest standards of road safety and operational efficiency. Your daily routine will involve more than just driving; it encompasses meticulous pre-trip and post-trip inspections to guarantee vehicle readiness, accurate load securement, and precise documentation of deliveries and mileage. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks for long-distance deliveries across Jamaica, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all mechanical, safety, and operational components are in excellent working condition.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent damage during transit and ensure compliance with weight distribution regulations.
- Plan and execute efficient delivery routes, managing time effectively to meet strict delivery schedules.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery records, fuel receipts, and other required documentation.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding delivery status, potential delays, vehicle issues, and any on-road challenges.
- Provide excellent customer service during deliveries, assisting with unloading when necessary and ensuring accurate product handovers.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, particularly concerning the handling of hazardous materials (batteries).
- Perform basic roadside maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Keep the truck clean and well-maintained, representing the company professionally.
Required Skills
- Valid General Driver's License (G-Class or equivalent for heavy-duty vehicles in Jamaica).
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable long-distance commercial truck driving experience.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents in the past 5 years.
- Proficient knowledge of Jamaican road networks and traffic regulations.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all safety protocols.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Physical fitness to handle loading/unloading tasks and prolonged driving.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in defensive driving or advanced driver training.
- Experience with battery transportation or hazardous materials handling.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with minor vehicle repairs.
- Proficiency with GPS and route optimization software.
