Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to oversee and manage all aspects of occupational health and safety within a prominent industrial estate located in Walderston, Manchester. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for all personnel and visitors. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring strict adherence to local regulations and international best practices. This position demands a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to foster a strong safety culture amongst diverse teams.

The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for all health and safety matters, conducting regular site inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations. You will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive safety training programs, maintaining accurate safety records, and preparing detailed reports for management. Your expertise will directly contribute to minimizing workplace hazards, preventing accidents, and promoting a continuous improvement approach to safety performance across the industrial estate. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate all workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and implementing preventive measures.
  • Deliver engaging and effective health and safety training programs to employees and contractors, ensuring understanding and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
  • Prepare and submit detailed safety reports, incident logs, and compliance documentation to management and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage the emergency response plan, conduct drills, and ensure all emergency equipment is properly maintained and accessible.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through continuous communication, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, specifically within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
