Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Grounds Maintenance Worker with a passion for landscape upkeep to join our dynamic team in Arnold, Nottingham. This role involves a comprehensive range of grounds maintenance tasks, focusing on landscape upkeep and improvement across various sites. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for creating and maintaining visually appealing and safe outdoor environments. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our managed sites, ranging from public parks to corporate grounds, consistently meet high standards of presentation and ecological health. This position demands physical stamina, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a dedicated team. You will be responsible for upholding safety protocols and contributing to a positive, productive work atmosphere. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grass cutting, strimming, and edging using various machinery (ride-on mowers, pedestrian mowers) and hand tools.
- Undertake comprehensive shrub and hedge maintenance, including precise pruning, shaping, and removal as required.
- Manage effective weed control through manual methods and appropriate herbicide application (relevant certification required or willingness to obtain).
- Conduct planting, consistent watering, and general care of flower beds, trees, and other soft landscaping features.
- Ensure pathways, car parks, and other hardstanding areas are consistently clean, free of debris, and well-maintained.
- Carry out seasonal leaf collection, thorough litter picking, and responsible waste removal to maintain impeccable site cleanliness.
- Operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment safely and efficiently, performing basic preventative checks and minor repairs.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, identified site hazards, or pest/disease issues promptly to the supervisor.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Participate actively in seasonal duties such as gritting and snow clearance during winter months to ensure site accessibility and safety.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (at least 1 year) in grounds maintenance or a related landscaping role.
- Proficiency in operating a range of grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., pedestrian and ride-on mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers).
- Good practical understanding of horticultural practices and plant care principles.
- Ability to work outdoors consistently in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Valid UK driving license with a clean record, essential for travelling between sites.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture, Landscaping, or an equivalent qualification.
- PA1/PA6 certification for safe herbicide application.
- Experience operating larger grounds maintenance machinery such as compact tractors.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- Knowledge of local flora and fauna specific to the Nottinghamshire area.
