Key Responsibilities
- Provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
- Assist with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) such as light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and running errands.
- Monitor and record client's vital signs, physical and mental status, and report any significant changes to the supervisor.
- Administer medication reminders and assist clients in adhering to their prescribed routines, ensuring timely intake.
- Offer companionship, engage clients in stimulating activities, and provide emotional support to foster a positive environment.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for clients, actively preventing falls and other potential hazards.
- Assist with grocery shopping and prescription pickups as needed, managing client's basic errands.
- Document care provided accurately and timely, maintaining strict client confidentiality at all times.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with clients, their families, and the Island Home Care team.
- Transport clients to appointments or social outings if required and pre-arranged, ensuring safe travel.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) for effective interaction.
- Ability to follow care plans and instructions meticulously, ensuring adherence to protocols.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail to notice changes in client condition.
- Reliable, punctual, and highly dependable with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries consistently.
- Basic understanding of hygiene, sanitation, and safety protocols for home care.
- Physical ability to assist clients with mobility and transfers (lifting, bending) as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid first aid and CPR certification.
- Relevant certificate or diploma in caregiving, nursing aide, or a related healthcare field.
- Experience with clients suffering from specific conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer's.
- Ability to speak multiple languages (e.g., French, Creole, English) to cater to diverse clients.
- Valid Mauritian driving license and access to a reliable vehicle for client transportation.
