We are seeking an exceptionally visionary and strategic Director of Research & Development to spearhead innovation within the dynamic and critical sectors of mining and metallurgy in Gwanda, Matabeleland South Province. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive R&D strategy aligned with the organization's long-term business goals, focusing on mining and metallurgical innovations.
- Lead, mentor, and expand a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performance research environment.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and successful completion of multiple R&D projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Identify, evaluate, and integrate new technologies, methodologies, and scientific breakthroughs relevant to material science, mineral processing, and sustainable resource management.
- Manage the R&D budget, secure necessary resources, and explore external funding opportunities (grants, partnerships).
- Establish and maintain robust intellectual property strategies, including patenting and knowledge management.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, commercial, and environmental teams to ensure seamless integration of R&D outcomes into business practices.
- Represent the company in academic, industry, and regulatory forums, building strategic partnerships and staying abreast of industry trends.
- Ensure all research activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Drive the transition of successful research outcomes from laboratory scale to pilot plant and full-scale industrial application.
Required Skills
- PhD in Metallurgy, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in R&D leadership roles, preferably within the mining, metals, or heavy industry sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful R&D strategies that drive innovation and business growth.
- Strong understanding of mineral processing techniques, extractive metallurgy, and materials characterization.
- Proven experience in managing complex R&D projects from concept to commercialization.
- Exceptional leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
