Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Port Operations Supervisor to oversee the efficient and safe day-to-day operations of our river-based activities and associated logistics. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing our diverse fleet of vessels, supervising a dedicated team of river guides and crew, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations, and optimizing operational workflows. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of river guides, boat captains, and operational staff, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
  • Oversee the daily scheduling and deployment of vessels and personnel, ensuring optimal resource utilization and adherence to operational plans.
  • Implement and enforce all safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements related to river operations and passenger safety.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure all vessels and equipment are in excellent working condition and meet safety standards.
  • Manage inventory of operational supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and efficient usage.
  • Conduct regular inspections of vessels, equipment, and 'port' facilities to identify and address potential hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Respond effectively to operational incidents, emergencies, or unforeseen challenges, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, incidents, staff performance, and equipment status.
  • Liaise with other departments, including reservations, sales, and guest services, to ensure a cohesive and high-quality guest experience.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service is delivered by all operational staff, enhancing guest satisfaction.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in operational management, preferably within the tourism, maritime, or logistics sectors.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Excellent understanding of safety protocols and risk management in a water-based operational environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to dynamic operational demands.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Hospitality Management, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with riverine or marine vessels and associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of local regulations and environmental guidelines pertaining to the Zambezi River.
  • Coxswain or other relevant maritime certification.
  • Experience in a UNESCO World Heritage site or high-volume tourism destination.
