Key Responsibilities
- Operate buses safely and efficiently along established routes and schedules.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, regulations, and company safety procedures.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, including checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes.
- Report any mechanical defects, accidents, or incidents promptly and accurately.
- Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, including those with special needs or disabilities, as required.
- Collect fares, issue tickets, and maintain accurate passenger counts and trip records.
- Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior for passenger comfort.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with passengers, colleagues, and the public.
- Handle passenger inquiries and minor disputes in a professional and calm manner.
- Manage unexpected delays or emergencies with composure, following established protocols.
- Ensure punctuality while prioritizing safety and passenger well-being.
Required Skills
- Valid heavy vehicle driving license (Class PSV or equivalent in Mauritius).
- Minimum of 2 years of professional bus driving experience.
- Excellent knowledge of traffic laws and road safety regulations in Mauritius.
- Strong defensive driving skills and a clean driving record.
- Ability to navigate routes efficiently using maps or GPS systems.
- Good verbal communication skills in English and Creole.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Customer service-oriented approach with a polite and helpful demeanor.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of a bus driver, including sitting for extended periods and operating controls.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience driving public transport buses in urban and suburban areas of Mauritius.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Additional language proficiency (e.g., French).
- Certification in professional driver training programs.
