Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to oversee and enhance safety protocols within a bustling industrial estate in Norwood, Montego Bay. This professional role demands a proactive individual with a deep understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to implement effective risk management strategies. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety management systems compliant with relevant local and international standards.
  • Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, hazard identifications, and safety audits across the industrial estate to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Design and deliver engaging safety training programs for all levels of staff, promoting a strong safety culture and awareness.
  • Ensure all operations adhere to current health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and company policies.
  • Prepare and present detailed safety reports, statistics, and performance metrics to management.
  • Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
  • Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives in health and safety practices and technologies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, particularly within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and international standards (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH).
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control principles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Internationally recognized safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, OSHA 30-hour certification).
  • Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs.
