We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to oversee and enhance safety protocols within a bustling industrial estate in Norwood, Montego Bay. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety management systems compliant with relevant local and international standards.
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, hazard identifications, and safety audits across the industrial estate to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Design and deliver engaging safety training programs for all levels of staff, promoting a strong safety culture and awareness.
- Ensure all operations adhere to current health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and company policies.
- Prepare and present detailed safety reports, statistics, and performance metrics to management.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives in health and safety practices and technologies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, particularly within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and international standards (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control principles.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and implement effective corrective actions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Internationally recognized safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, OSHA 30-hour certification).
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
