Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Adhere strictly to all national and international electrical codes, safety standards, and company policies.
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to determine the method of installing and maintaining electrical systems.
- Provide accurate estimates for electrical work and materials.
- Supervise and train apprentices or junior electricians as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent.
- Respond to emergency call-outs promptly and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a licensed Electrician.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and all relevant safety procedures.
- Familiarity with national and local electrical codes (e.g., SANS 10142, IEC standards if applicable).
- Proficiency in using electrical hand and power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent physical condition and stamina, with the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various environments.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification or diploma in Electrical Engineering/Technology.
- Certification in specific electrical systems or technologies (e.g., solar PV, industrial controls).
- Experience with both residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
