Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of the company vehicle fleet, including strategic acquisition, meticulous maintenance, effective repair, and responsible disposal.
  • Develop, implement, and rigorously manage preventative maintenance schedules to minimise vehicle downtime and ensure maximum reliability and safety.
  • Strategically manage and optimise staff schedules for drivers and maintenance personnel to ensure comprehensive coverage and peak operational efficiency.
  • Ensure full and continuous compliance with all relevant transport regulations, stringent health and safety standards, and current environmental legislation.
  • Monitor and analyse key fleet performance metrics, including fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and vehicle utilisation, preparing insightful reports for senior management.
  • Negotiate expertly with suppliers and service providers for vehicle purchases, essential parts, and comprehensive maintenance services to achieve significant cost efficiencies.
  • Implement and proactively manage advanced fleet tracking systems and other relevant technologies to enhance operational oversight and data-driven decision making.
  • Conduct regular, thorough vehicle inspections and comprehensive audits to ensure compliance and proactively identify and address potential issues.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and meticulously evaluate fleet staff, fostering a high-performance team culture built on excellence and mutual support.
  • Develop, manage, and meticulously adhere to the fleet budget, ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising quality or safety.
  • Efficiently respond to and manage all vehicle breakdowns, accidents, and emergencies, ensuring minimal disruption.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Fleet Manager or similar leadership role, with a strong emphasis on vehicle maintenance and staff scheduling.
  • Excellent knowledge of vehicle mechanics, comprehensive maintenance procedures, and current road transport legislation (e.g., O Licence compliance).
  • Proficiency in modern fleet management software and advanced scheduling tools.
  • Strong leadership and exceptional team management skills, with the ability to motivate, develop, and mentor staff effectively.
  • Exceptional organisational capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and robust problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for reporting and communication.
  • Valid UK Driving License (Category B minimum, Category C/C1 desirable).

  • Solid understanding and practical experience in health and safety compliance specifically related to fleet operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional certification in Fleet Management (e.g., CILT, IMI, CPC National/International).
  • Extensive experience with telematics and advanced GPS tracking systems.
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced logistics, distribution, or service delivery environment.
  • A strong understanding and commitment to environmental sustainability practices in fleet operations.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a closely related field.
