Job Description
Speedaf Express Kenya is looking for a diligent and physically fit Airport Porter to join our ground handling team at Migori Airstrip. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the efficient and safe movement of luggage, cargo, and other items for passengers and airline operations. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced airport environment. As an Airport Porter, you will be the face of our ground services, directly contributing to a smooth and pleasant travel experience for all passengers. You will interact with diverse individuals, ensuring their baggage is handled with care and efficiency, adhering to all safety protocols and company standards. This is a dynamic role that offers the opportunity to be an integral part of airport operations, providing essential support to both passengers and airline staff. We are seeking someone who is reliable, a team player, and committed to upholding the highest standards of service and safety in a bustling airport setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load and unload passenger luggage, cargo, and mail from aircraft, baggage carts, and conveyor belts.
- Assist passengers with their baggage needs, including lifting, carrying, and directing them to appropriate areas.
- Operate baggage handling equipment such as tugs, belt loaders, and forklifts (with proper training and certification).
- Transport luggage between various airport locations, including check-in counters, baggage claim, and aircraft.
- Inspect baggage for damage and report any irregularities or security concerns.
- Adhere strictly to all airport safety regulations, security procedures, and company policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment within baggage handling areas.
- Collaborate effectively with airline staff, ground crew, and other airport personnel to ensure seamless operations.
- Provide friendly and helpful assistance to passengers, answering basic queries and offering directions when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall airport and ground handling operations.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy luggage (up to 50 lbs/23 kg) repeatedly throughout a shift.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and a noisy airport environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and security protocols.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential for shift work.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role, logistics, or customer service.
- A valid Kenyan driving license (Class BCE) may be advantageous for operating ground support equipment.
- Knowledge of basic airport operations or aviation security procedures.
