Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Metal Fabrication Operator to join our dynamic team in Buhera, Manicaland Province. This crucial role involves the precise cutting, shaping, and assembly of metal components used in the manufacturing of our renowned agricultural implements and other engineering projects. As a Metal Fabrication Operator, you will be instrumental in interpreting complex technical drawings and blueprints to produce high-quality parts that meet stringent specifications. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the structural integrity and aesthetic finish of our products, contributing directly to our reputation for durability and reliability within the agricultural sector. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of various fabrication processes, including cutting, welding (MIG, TIG, Arc), grinding, and operating specialized machinery such as shears, press brakes, and plasma cutters. Key Responsibilities
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to determine material requirements and fabrication procedures.
- Operate a variety of metal fabrication machinery, including shears, press brakes, grinders, drills, and welding equipment (MIG, TIG, Arc) with precision and efficiency.
- Cut, bend, shape, and form metal components from various materials (steel, aluminum, etc.) using appropriate tools and techniques to meet precise dimensions.
- Execute various welding operations to join metal parts, ensuring strong, clean, and durable welds that adhere to quality standards.
- Conduct thorough inspections of finished products for quality assurance, ensuring adherence to design specifications, dimensional accuracy, and industry standards.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of fabrication equipment to ensure optimal performance, extended lifespan, and safety.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, diligently adhering to all company safety regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering, design, and production teams to resolve fabrication challenges and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the safe loading and unloading of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products as required.
- Troubleshoot and rectify minor equipment malfunctions, promptly escalating more complex technical issues to maintenance or supervisory staff.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in reading and accurately interpreting blueprints, schematics, and detailed technical drawings.
- Demonstrated expertise and certification in various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and Arc welding.
- Skilled operation of common metal fabrication machinery such as shears, press brakes, grinders, and plasma cutters.
- Strong understanding of different metal properties, fabrication principles, and material handling best practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to producing high-quality, defect-free work.
- Competency in using precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, protractors, and tape measures.
- In-depth knowledge of workplace safety procedures and practices specific to a heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Physical stamina, manual dexterity, and the ability to handle heavy materials and operate machinery for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Artisan Certificate or Diploma in Metal Fabrication, Welding, Boilermaking, or a closely related engineering field.
- Proven experience with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) fabrication equipment.
- Basic knowledge and practical application of lean manufacturing principles.
- Valid forklift operator certification.
- Previous experience working specifically within the agricultural equipment manufacturing or heavy engineering industry.
