Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our professional team, dedicated to ensuring a safe and compliant operational environment within a bustling industrial estate in Ardenne, Kingston. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and enforcing robust safety programs, conducting thorough risk assessments, and investigating incidents to prevent recurrence. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards within the industrial estate.
  • Conduct regular and thorough site inspections, audits, and risk assessments across all operational areas to identify potential hazards and ensure strict compliance.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all relevant local Health & Safety legislation, including the Factories Act of Jamaica, and other occupational safety and environmental regulations.
  • Lead detailed investigations into all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes, and recommending effective corrective and preventative actions to avoid recurrence.
  • Design, organize, and deliver engaging and effective Health & Safety training sessions for all levels of staff, promoting safety awareness and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive Health & Safety records, reports, and documentation for internal review, regulatory compliance, and external auditing purposes.
  • Manage the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials, ensuring full environmental compliance and minimizing ecological impact.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of robust emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, chemical spill containment, and natural disaster protocols.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management on all Health & Safety matters, contributing to strategic planning for continuous safety improvements.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external regulatory bodies, industry associations, and auditors, representing the company professionally and effectively.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in a dedicated Health & Safety role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical application of Jamaican H&S legislation (e.g., Factories Act) and international best practices (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • Strong proficiency in conducting comprehensive risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analysis.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective H&S training programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver's license for site visits and travel within the industrial estate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent internationally recognized Health & Safety certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Specific experience in fire safety management and emergency response coordination.
  • Project management skills related to H&S initiatives and improvements.
