In this pivotal position, you will be a frontline ambassador for Econet, directly responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide array of telecommunications equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, advanced network base stations, intricate fiber optic lines, radio equipment, microwave links, and diverse customer premise equipment (CPE) for both individual and enterprise clients. Your expertise will be crucial in directly contributing to maintaining the high standards of connectivity, reliability, and speed that our customers depend on daily across the Kadoma region and potentially broader Mashonaland West. You will be instrumental in diagnosing complex technical faults, performing diligent preventative maintenance to minimize downtime, and ensuring that our extensive network infrastructure operates at peak performance. This role demands a high degree of technical independence, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to work effectively under pressure, often in challenging conditions or remote locations, to meet stringent service level agreements. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installation, configuration, and commissioning of telecommunications equipment including base stations, fiber optic networks, microwave radios, and CPE.
  • Conduct thorough diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify and resolve complex technical issues related to network infrastructure and customer services.
  • Execute preventative and corrective maintenance on various network elements to ensure optimal performance and minimize service disruptions.
  • Document all service activities, including detailed reports of installations, repairs, and maintenance performed, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to customers, explaining technical issues clearly and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety standards, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements while working in the field.
  • Collaborate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) and other technical teams to coordinate repairs and implement network enhancements.
  • Manage and maintain company-issued tools, test equipment, and vehicle, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Travel extensively within the Kadoma region and broader Mashonaland West Province to various site locations as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical aptitude in electronics, electrical systems, and telecommunications principles.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of diagnostic tools and test equipment relevant to network and fiber optic systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work with technical schematics, circuit diagrams, and instruction manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Valid Class 4 Zimbabwean Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging outdoor environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Fiber Optics Technician Certification).
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a field service or technical support role within the telecommunications industry.
  • Familiarity with GSM, LTE, Fiber to the Home (FTTH), and other fixed/mobile broadband technologies.
  • Experience working at heights and with power tools in a safe manner.
