Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor to join our dynamic team in Zvishavane. This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our extensive vehicle and heavy mobile equipment maintenance program, ensuring peak performance, operational safety, and compliance with all company and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will lead a team of dedicated technicians, foster a culture of proactive maintenance, and implement best practices to minimize downtime and optimize fleet availability. You will be instrumental in scheduling preventative maintenance, diagnosing complex mechanical issues, managing spare parts inventory, and continuously improving maintenance processes. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of vehicle technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all preventive maintenance activities for the company's fleet of light vehicles, heavy trucks, and mobile mining equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in various types of equipment.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
- Manage spare parts inventory, including ordering, tracking, and optimizing stock levels to ensure availability and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, service histories, and inspection reports.
- Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the maintenance department, identifying areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with operations teams to minimize equipment downtime and optimize fleet utilization.
- Conduct regular equipment inspections and audits to identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance procedures and processes.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on fleet performance, maintenance costs, and team productivity.
- Ensure adherence to budget constraints for maintenance operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor or similar leadership role in an industrial or mining environment.
- Strong technical expertise in the maintenance and repair of light vehicles, heavy trucks, and heavy mobile mining equipment (e.g., excavators, haul trucks, loaders).
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all operational procedures.
- Computer literacy, especially with maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Preferred Qualifications
- National Diploma or Degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification in heavy equipment maintenance.
- Experience with specific mining equipment brands (e.g., Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo).
- Knowledge of lean maintenance principles and predictive maintenance techniques.
- Experience working with ERP systems for inventory and work order management.
