Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process customs declarations for import and export shipments, adhering to all legal requirements.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of customs documentation, including invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Calculate and ensure correct payment of duties, taxes, and other charges, minimizing discrepancies.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, freight forwarders, and customs authorities to resolve queries.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all customs clearance activities for audit readiness.
- Research and stay updated on changes in German and EU customs regulations, trade laws, and specific country requirements (e.g., UZK, ATLAS).
- Assist in resolving customs-related issues, discrepancies, and delays in a timely manner.
- Coordinate closely with internal teams (e.g., operations, sales) to ensure timely release and delivery of goods.
- Handle inquiries related to customs procedures, documentation requirements, and tariff classifications.
- Support audit preparations and ensure continuous compliance with all relevant legal requirements and internal policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in customs clearance, international logistics, or freight forwarding.
- Strong knowledge of German and EU customs regulations (e.g., Union Customs Code – UZK).
- Proficiency in customs software applications (e.g., ATLAS) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in German and English.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
- Proactive problem-solving aptitude and ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced setting.
