Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all aspects of occupational health and safety within our bustling industrial estate located in Hatfield, Mandeville. This is a pivotal professional role requiring a proactive individual with a deep understanding of safety legislation, risk management, and the practical application of OHS best practices within an industrial setting.

As our Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in cultivating a robust safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations, and minimizing workplace hazards. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs that protect our employees, contractors, and visitors. This includes conducting thorough risk assessments, investigating incidents, and providing engaging training sessions that empower all personnel to prioritize safety. Your expertise will guide decision-making and drive continuous improvement in our safety performance. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programs in line with Jamaican OHS legislation and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Organize and deliver engaging safety training sessions for all employees on various topics including emergency preparedness, hazard communication, proper equipment use, and ergonomic practices.
  • Ensure all necessary safety equipment is available, maintained, and properly utilized.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports to relevant regulatory bodies as required.
  • Manage hazardous waste disposal and ensure environmental compliance within the industrial estate.
  • Advise management on safety-related issues and assist in the development of departmental safety objectives.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through ongoing communication, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and certifications.
  • Coordinate with emergency services and act as the primary contact during safety-related incidents.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA principles).
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Strong understanding of industrial machinery, processes, and associated hazards.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH IGC or equivalent internationally recognized safety certification.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Familiarity with fire safety management and emergency response planning.
