Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Mechanical Technician to join our dynamic team in Epworth, Harare Province. This is a critical full-time role within our operations, responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, maintenance, and reliability of our diverse range of manufacturing equipment and machinery. As a Mechanical Technician at National Foods Limited, you will be instrumental in supporting our production goals by performing preventative maintenance, executing timely repairs, and contributing to the installation and commissioning of new mechanical systems.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundational knowledge of mechanical principles, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a proven track record in an industrial or manufacturing setting. You will work closely with production teams, electrical technicians, and engineers to diagnose faults, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve our operational efficiency. Your daily activities will involve inspecting machinery for defects, lubricating moving parts, replacing worn components, and conducting routine servicing to minimize downtime and prevent costly breakdowns.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance on all mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults, breakdowns, and operational issues efficiently.
- Execute repairs, replacements, and overhauls of mechanical components such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
- Install, commission, and test new mechanical equipment and systems.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential problems and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and spare parts usage.
- Collaborate with production, electrical, and engineering teams to optimize equipment performance and reduce downtime.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies.
- Assist in the training of junior technicians or production staff on equipment operation and basic maintenance.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis of equipment failures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in specific mechanical maintenance techniques (e.g., vibration analysis, lubrication).
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Familiarity with food processing equipment and hygiene standards.
- At least 5 years of practical experience in a relevant industry.
