Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for various construction and engineering projects based on plans, specifications, and client requirements.
  • Conduct thorough material take-offs from architectural and structural drawings, ensuring precise quantities.
  • Liaise with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information, clarify scope, and obtain competitive quotes.
  • Analyze project specifications to identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of unit costs, material prices, and labor rates specific to the Mauritian market.
  • Present clear and concise cost breakdowns and proposals to project managers and clients.
  • Participate in project handover meetings, ensuring a smooth transition from estimation to project execution.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, material innovations, and local regulatory changes affecting cost estimation.
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documents and contract negotiations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in project estimation within the construction or engineering sector.
  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural, structural, and M&E drawings.
  • Expertise in quantity surveying and material take-off techniques.
  • Advanced skills in estimation software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Thorough understanding of construction methodologies, materials, and labor costs in Mauritius.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in estimation or quantity surveying.
  • Experience with FIDIC contracts or similar standard construction contracts.
  • Prior experience working on diverse project types (e.g., residential, commercial, infrastructure).
