Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for various construction and engineering projects based on plans, specifications, and client requirements.
- Conduct thorough material take-offs from architectural and structural drawings, ensuring precise quantities.
- Liaise with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information, clarify scope, and obtain competitive quotes.
- Analyze project specifications to identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of unit costs, material prices, and labor rates specific to the Mauritian market.
- Present clear and concise cost breakdowns and proposals to project managers and clients.
- Participate in project handover meetings, ensuring a smooth transition from estimation to project execution.
- Stay updated with industry trends, material innovations, and local regulatory changes affecting cost estimation.
- Assist in the preparation of tender documents and contract negotiations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in project estimation within the construction or engineering sector.
- Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural, structural, and M&E drawings.
- Expertise in quantity surveying and material take-off techniques.
- Advanced skills in estimation software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Thorough understanding of construction methodologies, materials, and labor costs in Mauritius.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Professional certification in estimation or quantity surveying.
- Experience with FIDIC contracts or similar standard construction contracts.
- Prior experience working on diverse project types (e.g., residential, commercial, infrastructure).
