Job Description

The Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Grounds Assistant to join our team in Ha Nohana, Quthing. This vital role involves maintaining the appearance and health of LEC properties, ensuring our facilities remain presentable and accessible to staff and the community. As a Grounds Assistant, you will be an integral part of our operational support, working diligently to keep our sites pristine and conducive to a productive work environment. Your responsibilities will range from general landscaping tasks, such as mowing, weeding, and planting, to ensuring the cleanliness and safety of all external areas. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, weeding garden beds, and pruning shrubs and small trees.
- Plant and maintain flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance the aesthetic appeal of company properties.
- Ensure cleanliness of external areas by sweeping pathways, removing litter, and emptying outdoor waste receptacles.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on grounds equipment as needed, reporting larger issues to supervisors.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants.
- Monitor the health of plants and turf, identifying and reporting any signs of disease or pest infestation.
- Operate and maintain various hand and power tools safely and effectively, including mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies while performing duties.
- Assist with seasonal grounds tasks such as leaf removal, snow clearance (if applicable), and preparation for planting seasons.
- Support other departmental needs as assigned, contributing to overall site functionality and appearance.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of horticultural practices and plant care.
- Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment (mowers, trimmers, etc.) safely.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to grounds upkeep.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to protocols.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience (6 months or more) in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a similar outdoor maintenance role.
- Valid driver's license (Code B or higher) with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of local plant species and environmental conditions in Lesotho.
