Are you a seasoned Health & Safety professional with a passion for creating secure and compliant industrial environments? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive Health & Safety Officer to lead our safety initiatives within a dynamic industrial estate in Red Hills, Kingston. This critical role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive occupational health and safety programs to ensure full compliance with national regulations and international best practices.

As our Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in fostering a strong safety culture, identifying potential hazards, and mitigating risks across various industrial operations, from manufacturing to logistics. You will conduct regular site inspections, lead accident investigations, and provide expert guidance on safety protocols. Your ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, from management to frontline workers, will be key to successful training and engagement. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in alignment with Jamaican OHS regulations and international standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and site inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Lead and participate in accident/incident investigations, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Design and deliver engaging safety training programs for all levels of employees, including new hire orientations, hazard communication, and emergency preparedness.
  • Monitor and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
  • Prepare and submit detailed H&S reports, including incident summaries, audit findings, and compliance status, to management and relevant authorities.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies, emergency services, and health & safety professionals as required.
  • Advise management on current and upcoming OHS legislation and best practices, proposing necessary adjustments to company policies.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety committees, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Oversee the management of hazardous materials and waste disposal in accordance with environmental and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in Occupational Health and Safety management, particularly within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to conduct training and liaise with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to develop and implement effective safety management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized H&S qualification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience with safety management software.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Fluency in an additional language relevant to the local workforce.
