Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive Health & Safety Officer to lead our safety initiatives within a dynamic industrial estate in Red Hills, Kingston. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in alignment with Jamaican OHS regulations and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and site inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Lead and participate in accident/incident investigations, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Design and deliver engaging safety training programs for all levels of employees, including new hire orientations, hazard communication, and emergency preparedness.
- Monitor and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
- Prepare and submit detailed H&S reports, including incident summaries, audit findings, and compliance status, to management and relevant authorities.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies, emergency services, and health & safety professionals as required.
- Advise management on current and upcoming OHS legislation and best practices, proposing necessary adjustments to company policies.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety committees, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Oversee the management of hazardous materials and waste disposal in accordance with environmental and safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in Occupational Health and Safety management, particularly within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to conduct training and liaise with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to develop and implement effective safety management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized H&S qualification.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Experience with safety management software.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Fluency in an additional language relevant to the local workforce.
