Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive R&D strategy aligned with the company's long-term business objectives and market demands.
- Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing team of researchers, scientists, and engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Oversee the entire R&D lifecycle, from conceptualization and feasibility studies to prototyping, testing, and successful product/process launch.
- Manage the R&D budget, resources, and timelines effectively, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within financial constraints.
- Identify, evaluate, and integrate new technologies, scientific breakthroughs, and market trends to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
- Establish and maintain strong intellectual property strategies, including patenting and protecting novel inventions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product development, marketing, operations, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of R&D initiatives.
- Represent the company in scientific forums, conferences, and with key external partners, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure all R&D activities comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and ethical guidelines.
- Drive continuous improvement in R&D processes, methodologies, and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in research and development, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or directorial role.
- Proven track record of successfully leading R&D teams and delivering innovative products or solutions to market.
- Strong strategic planning and execution skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable R&D roadmaps.
- Exceptional leadership, team-building, and communication skills, capable of inspiring and motivating diverse teams.
- Expertise in project management methodologies and tools for R&D initiatives.
- In-depth understanding of intellectual property management and patenting processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets and resources effectively.
- Proficiency in data analysis, experimental design, and scientific methodology.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a commitment to scientific rigor and ethical practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the manufacturing, biotechnology, or mining sectors relevant to the Matabeleland North region.
- Knowledge of local and international regulatory frameworks pertinent to R&D and product development.
- MBA or equivalent business management qualification.
- Experience with Lean R&D principles or Agile methodologies in an R&D context.
- Publications or patents reflecting significant contributions to a scientific or technical field.
