Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join a prominent industrial estate in Mona, St. Andrew. This professional role is critical in ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors within a dynamic industrial setting. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in strict adherence to local regulations and international best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS) aligned with local regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all aspects of occupational health and safety.
- Organize and deliver engaging health and safety training programs for new hires and existing staff, ensuring understanding and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid provisions, and fire safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance documentation.
- Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and emergency services as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering health and safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent internationally recognized safety qualification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Ability to speak multiple languages (e.g., Spanish) is a plus.
