Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Painter to join our dedicated Property Maintenance team in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West. This is a full-time, on-site position that plays a crucial role in maintaining the pristine appearance and structural integrity of our commercial properties, including retail stores, warehouses, and administrative offices. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and a proven track record in delivering high-quality painting and finishing work in a commercial setting. You will be responsible for preparing various surfaces, applying different types of paint and coatings, and ensuring all projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards. This role requires excellent technical knowledge of painting materials and techniques, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare various surfaces (walls, ceilings, metal, wood) for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, and priming.
  • Apply paint, varnish, stain, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including ladders, scaffolding, and power tools, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Mix and match paints to achieve desired colours and textures.
  • Identify and repair minor surface defects, cracks, and blemishes before painting.
  • Protect surrounding areas and furniture from paint splatter and damage using drop cloths and masking tape.
  • Ensure all work areas are kept clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Adhere strictly to safety regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Estimate material quantities and report supplies needed to supervisors.
  • Inspect finished surfaces to ensure high quality, even application, and adherence to specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of painting equipment.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Commercial Painter or similar role.
  • Proficiency in various painting techniques, including brush, roller, and spray applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of paint types, primers, sealers, and finishes, and their appropriate application.
  • Ability to perform detailed surface preparation, including patching, sanding, and priming.
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and protocols related to painting and working at heights.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks, lift heavy objects, and work in various positions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.
  • Valid Class 4 driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training or a trade certificate in painting and decorating.
  • Experience with specialized commercial coatings or industrial painting applications.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry or plastering for minor repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints or schematics for large-scale projects.
