Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Financial Controller to join our leadership team in Hwange. This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting, and driving robust financial controls across the organization. The Senior Financial Controller will play a critical role in supporting strategic decision-making by providing timely and insightful financial analysis, managing budgeting and forecasting processes, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies. This position requires a proactive leader with a strong technical accounting background, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing finance team within a complex industrial environment. You will be instrumental in safeguarding company assets, optimizing financial performance, and fostering a culture of financial discipline and accountability. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of the company’s financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
- Oversee the budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with departmental heads to develop realistic and achievable financial plans.
- Provide comprehensive financial analysis and insights to senior management to support strategic planning and operational decision-making.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and treasury functions to ensure optimal liquidity and financial stability.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of all statutory returns, including tax, regulatory, and audit requirements.
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and high performance.
- Coordinate and manage external audits, acting as the primary liaison with auditors.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, implementing proactive strategies to protect the company’s financial health.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role, preferably in the mining or heavy industry sector.
- Strong technical accounting skills, with in-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial information clearly.
- High level of integrity, ethical conduct, and professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
- Professional certification such as ACCA, CIMA, CA (Zimbabwe), or equivalent.
- Experience with financial modelling and business intelligence tools.
- Knowledge of Zimbabwean tax laws and corporate governance regulations.
- Previous experience working with a publicly listed company.
