Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed industrial clients located within the bustling Riversdale Industrial Estate. As a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial estate, you will be the cornerstone of our client’s commitment to protecting its most valuable asset: its people. Your expertise will be crucial in developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of heavy industry, including manufacturing processes, machinery operation, logistics, and hazardous material handling. You will be instrumental in identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough risk assessments, and devising effective mitigation strategies to prevent incidents and promote a healthy workplace.
This role demands a high degree of autonomy, requiring you to regularly inspect facilities, equipment, and work practices to ensure strict adherence to both national and international H&S regulations, as well as internal company policies. You will lead incident investigations, meticulously document findings, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence. A significant part of your role will involve employee engagement and training; you will design and deliver compelling safety briefings, workshops, and induction programs to equip all personnel with the knowledge and tools necessary to maintain a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments within the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Design and deliver comprehensive H&S training programs for all employees, including new hires and ongoing refreshers.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant Jamaican Health & Safety legislation and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of all H&S activities, incidents, inspections, training, and certifications.
- Oversee the management of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with safety protocols.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Collaborate with management and department heads to integrate safety best practices into daily operations.
- Monitor and report on H&S performance, identifying trends and recommending areas for improvement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican H&S legislation and regulations (e.g., Factories Act).
- Expertise in risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Strong incident investigation and reporting skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in H&S management systems and relevant software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a meticulous approach to documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Internationally recognized H&S qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA certification).
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
