Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily feeding and watering of poultry according to established schedules and dietary requirements.
  • Monitor the health and well-being of birds, identifying and reporting any signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior to farm management promptly.
  • Collect and handle eggs carefully, ensuring proper cleaning, grading, storage, and quality control procedures are followed.
  • Maintain exceptional cleanliness and sanitation of poultry housing, coops, equipment, and surrounding farm areas to prevent disease and ensure a healthy, comfortable environment.
  • Assist with the safe and humane movement of birds within the farm as needed, ensuring their welfare and minimizing stress.
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on farm equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere strictly to all biosecurity protocols, animal welfare standards, and health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Participate in general farm maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, upkeep of facilities, and groundskeeping.
  • Record daily observations, feed consumption, egg production, and any other relevant data accurately.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong observational skills and meticulous attention to detail for monitoring animal health and behavior.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of animal welfare principles and a genuine care for livestock.
  • Willingness to work in a farm environment, which may include exposure to dust, odors, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation to the farm location in Sardis, Chilliwack.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with poultry or other livestock in a farm setting.
  • Knowledge of biosecurity measures and hygiene practices in agricultural environments.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for simple equipment operation and minor maintenance.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
