Job Description

Zimasco (Pvt) Ltd is seeking an experienced and dedicated Concrete Pump Operator to join our dynamic construction and maintenance team in Zvishavane. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining concrete pumps to facilitate the efficient placement of concrete for various construction and infrastructure projects within our facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate concrete pump trucks and related equipment safely and efficiently to deliver concrete to designated areas according to project specifications.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain concrete pump equipment before, during, and after operation, including boom, hoses, and mechanical components, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Monitor concrete mix consistency and flow, adjusting controls as necessary to ensure optimal pumping performance and prevent blockages.
  • Set up and break down pumping equipment, including laying out and connecting hoses and pipes, ensuring secure and leak-free connections.
  • Communicate effectively with batch plant operators, concrete truck drivers, and site personnel to coordinate concrete delivery and placement schedules.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant industry regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor operational issues or mechanical breakdowns on-site, performing basic repairs as competent.
  • Maintain accurate logs of daily operations, equipment maintenance, fuel consumption, and any incidents or challenges encountered.
  • Assist with other site-related tasks and general labor as required, ensuring overall project success and adherence to deadlines.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects, damage, or maintenance needs promptly to supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) operating concrete pump trucks (boom and/or line pumps) in a demanding environment.
  • Valid Class 2 Zimbabwean driver's license with relevant endorsements for heavy vehicles.
  • Strong understanding of concrete properties, mixing ratios, and different types of concrete mixes.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for pump equipment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and practices in construction or industrial settings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, communicate clearly, and follow instructions precisely.
  • Physical fitness to perform demanding tasks, lift heavy objects, and work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans relevant to concrete placement and structural requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in plant operation, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working specifically in a mining or heavy industrial construction environment.
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping, report generation, and communication.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and basic electrical components within pump machinery.
