Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive personal care to residents, including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, and toileting, while respecting individual preferences and dignity.
  • Administer and record medications accurately as per care plans and established protocols, ensuring resident safety and compliance.
  • Monitor and report changes in residents' physical, emotional, or cognitive status to nursing staff and family members promptly.
  • Assist residents with meal preparation and feeding, adhering to dietary restrictions and promoting a positive dining experience.
  • Engage residents in meaningful activities, social interaction, and therapeutic exercises to promote mental and physical well-being.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for residents, adhering to infection control and safety standards.
  • Document care provided, observations, and incidents accurately and timely in resident care records.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, families, and external healthcare providers to ensure holistic care delivery.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced care support attendants, fostering a supportive team environment.
  • Respond to resident emergencies and provide first aid as needed, following established emergency procedures.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Care Support Attendant, Personal Support Worker (PSW), or similar role, preferably in a senior living or long-term care setting.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Demonstrated ability to administer medications safely and accurately.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with seniors and their families.
  • Excellent observational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for elder care.
  • Physical ability to assist residents with transfers, mobility, and perform tasks requiring light to moderate lifting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate from an accredited Personal Support Worker (PSW) program or equivalent.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of dementia care and other age-related conditions.
  • Training in mental health first aid.
  • Bilingualism (English and other languages prevalent in the community).
