Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive personal care to residents, including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, and toileting, while respecting individual preferences and dignity.
- Administer and record medications accurately as per care plans and established protocols, ensuring resident safety and compliance.
- Monitor and report changes in residents' physical, emotional, or cognitive status to nursing staff and family members promptly.
- Assist residents with meal preparation and feeding, adhering to dietary restrictions and promoting a positive dining experience.
- Engage residents in meaningful activities, social interaction, and therapeutic exercises to promote mental and physical well-being.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for residents, adhering to infection control and safety standards.
- Document care provided, observations, and incidents accurately and timely in resident care records.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, families, and external healthcare providers to ensure holistic care delivery.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced care support attendants, fostering a supportive team environment.
- Respond to resident emergencies and provide first aid as needed, following established emergency procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Care Support Attendant, Personal Support Worker (PSW), or similar role, preferably in a senior living or long-term care setting.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Demonstrated ability to administer medications safely and accurately.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with seniors and their families.
- Excellent observational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for elder care.
- Physical ability to assist residents with transfers, mobility, and perform tasks requiring light to moderate lifting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate from an accredited Personal Support Worker (PSW) program or equivalent.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Knowledge of dementia care and other age-related conditions.
- Training in mental health first aid.
- Bilingualism (English and other languages prevalent in the community).
