Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a dynamic team operating within a bustling industrial estate in Walderston, Manchester. This professional role is critical in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for all personnel, visitors, and contractors. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with national regulations and international best practices. You will play a pivotal role in fostering a proactive safety culture, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and providing essential safety training. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican OHS regulations and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for employees, ensuring all staff are aware of their responsibilities and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of all safety-related activities, incidents, training, and inspections.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, including legislative changes and new technologies.
  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports to relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Lead emergency response planning and drills, including fire safety and first aid procedures.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the industrial estate.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Excellent understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and persuade at all levels of an organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional safety qualification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Familiarity with OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 standards.
