Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead mentors in planning, coordinating, and executing engaging workshops, activities, and events for youth participants.
- Provide direct supervision and support to mentees during program activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
- Facilitate group discussions and encourage positive interaction among mentees, fostering teamwork and mutual respect.
- Offer one-on-one guidance and support to individual mentees as needed, under the supervision of lead mentors.
- Maintain accurate records of mentee attendance, participation, and progress, contributing to program evaluation.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and school representatives regarding mentee progress and program updates.
- Help identify and address potential challenges or concerns affecting mentees, escalating issues to lead mentors when necessary.
- Promote a positive and encouraging atmosphere that motivates youth to achieve their personal and academic goals.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of program materials and resources.
- Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions to enhance mentoring skills and program effectiveness.
Required Skills
- Proven experience working with youth in a mentorship, teaching, or community setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse youth.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a positive attitude.
- Proficiency in Portuguese (written and spoken) is essential; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Sena, Nyanja) is a significant advantage.
- Ability to adapt to various situations and respond constructively to challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a structured youth mentoring program.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
- Understanding of the socio-economic context and cultural nuances of Tete Province.
