Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in building projects to join our dynamic team in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County. This pivotal role will involve overseeing all electrical aspects of various building construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, industry standards, safety regulations, and project timelines. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in electrical system design, meticulous installation planning, thorough testing, and efficient commissioning within diverse building environments, including commercial, residential, and institutional structures. You will be instrumental in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and paramount safety of all electrical installations, working in close collaboration with project managers, visionary architects, dedicated mechanical engineers, and our diligent site teams. You will be expected to conduct comprehensive site surveys, prepare detailed electrical drawings and specifications, rigorously evaluate vendor proposals, and ensure all electrical works rigorously comply with national and international codes, including the Kenya Building Code and relevant IEC standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement comprehensive electrical systems for various building projects, including sophisticated power distribution networks, energy-efficient lighting designs, advanced fire alarm systems, robust data networks, and integrated security systems.
- Prepare detailed electrical drawings, comprehensive specifications, precise calculations, and accurate bills of quantities (BoQ) for effective tendering and flawless construction execution.
- Conduct thorough site surveys and rigorous inspections to accurately assess existing electrical infrastructure, meticulously identify specific requirements, and proactively ensure compliance with both design parameters and stringent safety standards.
- Manage and supervise all electrical installations on-site, ensuring superior quality workmanship, strict adherence to all specifications, and timely completion of all assigned tasks.
- Coordinate seamlessly with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and all other pertinent stakeholders to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into the overall building designs.
- Evaluate and strategically select appropriate electrical equipment, high-quality materials, and reputable vendors, ensuring both cost-effectiveness and that all performance criteria are rigorously met.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and efficient commissioning of all electrical systems, diligently troubleshooting any issues that arise to ensure optimal functionality, maximum efficiency, and paramount safety.
- Ensure all electrical works rigorously comply with relevant national and international standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., Kenya Building Code, NFPA, IEC, Energy Regulatory Commission guidelines).
- Prepare detailed progress reports, comprehensive technical documentation, and thorough project close-out reports.
- Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site technicians, fostering their professional growth and development.
- Implement and rigorously enforce all safety protocols and best practices for all electrical works, promoting a secure working environment.
- Manage project budgets related to electrical installations and procurements with precision and accountability.
Required Skills
- Proven extensive experience in electrical design and engineering for diverse building projects.
- Proficiency in industry-standard electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, ETAP).
- Strong, in-depth understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations specifically applicable in Kenya (e.g., Kenya Building Code, Energy Regulatory Commission guidelines, KPLC standards).
- Comprehensive knowledge of power distribution systems, advanced lighting design principles, fire alarm systems, security systems, and robust data networking solutions.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and consistently meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) for reporting and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- Active Membership in the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
- Extensive experience with sustainable building practices and designing green electrical systems.
- Familiarity and practical experience with project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
- Postgraduate qualification in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience working on large-scale commercial, industrial, or public building projects.
