Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Facilities Support Technician to join our operations team in Calabar, Cross River State. In this crucial on-site role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our facilities, creating a safe, comfortable, and productive environment for all occupants. This is a hands-on position requiring a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to upholding high standards of maintenance and repair.

As a Facilities Support Technician, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across various systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building fabrics. You will be the frontline support, responding to maintenance requests, conducting routine inspections, and identifying potential issues before they escalate. Your day-to-day will involve everything from troubleshooting minor electrical faults, repairing leaky faucets, ensuring HVAC systems are functioning optimally, to performing general carpentry and painting tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general mechanical equipment.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and troubleshoot issues related to facilities infrastructure.
  • Conduct minor repairs and installations such as changing light fixtures, fixing leaks, repairing furniture, and performing basic carpentry.
  • Monitor and maintain building security systems, including access control and CCTV, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Assist with facility inspections to identify and address potential hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of supplies.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or projects when necessary.
  • Support set-up and breakdown for internal events and meetings.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from hazards.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
  • Proficiency in basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems troubleshooting and repair.
  • Strong general handyman skills including carpentry, painting, and basic mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform strenuous tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training or certification in electrical, HVAC, or plumbing.
  • Experience with facility management software (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of local safety codes and regulations (e.g., OSHA, relevant Nigerian standards).
  • First Aid and Fire Safety certification.
