Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Architect specializing in Building Design to join our dynamic Public Works Department. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the conceptualization, design, and oversight of various public building projects across Machakos County. This is an exceptional opportunity for an architect who is not only proficient in design and project management but also deeply committed to public service and community development. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design process for various county building projects, from conceptualization to detailed design documentation.
  • Prepare comprehensive architectural drawings, specifications, schedules, and tender documents in compliance with relevant building codes and regulations.
  • Conduct site inspections and supervise construction activities to ensure adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with inter-departmental teams, consulting engineers, quantity surveyors, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage project budgets and timelines, ensuring efficient resource utilization and timely delivery of projects.
  • Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, and material samples.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on architectural matters to county management and other departments.
  • Ensure all designs incorporate principles of sustainable architecture, accessibility, and resilience.
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement meetings and presentations to gather requirements and present design proposals.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and other relevant architectural design software.
  • Strong understanding of Kenyan building codes, regulations, and construction standards.
  • Proven experience in architectural design, documentation, and construction supervision.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • High level of creativity, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • Registered Architect with the Architects Registration Board of Kenya (ARB).
  • Active membership with the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK).
  • Experience working with public sector projects or large-scale institutional developments.
