Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and systems in alignment with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and ensure timely reporting to relevant authorities and internal stakeholders.
- Organize and deliver safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local (e.g., OSHA Jamaica, Factories Act) and international H&S legislation and regulations.
- Manage and oversee emergency preparedness plans, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and first aid provisions.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, including best practices and emerging trends.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to site safety rules.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and promote employee engagement in H&S initiatives.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Internationally recognized H&S certification (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry).
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican H&S legislation (e.g., Factories Act, Occupational Safety and Health Bill).
- Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas (e.g., First Aid/CPR Instructor, Fire Safety, Environmental Management).
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems) implementation and auditing.
- Familiarity with specific industrial processes relevant to the Rockfort Industrial Estate (e.g., logistics, manufacturing, port operations).
