Are you a highly skilled and dedicated Fleet Mechanic looking for a challenging opportunity in a dynamic environment? ZUPCO is seeking an experienced Fleet Mechanic to join our Rusape depot team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of our diverse fleet of buses and commuter omnibuses. Your expertise will ensure the operational readiness, safety, and longevity of our vehicles, directly contributing to our mission of providing reliable public transport. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on ZUPCO fleet vehicles, including buses and commuter omnibuses, in accordance with established schedules and manufacturer specifications.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using advanced diagnostic tools and manual inspection techniques.
- Execute timely and effective repairs to engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering components, suspension, and other critical vehicle systems.
- Conduct comprehensive safety inspections and ensure all vehicles meet ZUPCO and regulatory safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and labor hours.
- Order and manage spare parts inventory efficiently, ensuring availability for scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Collaborate with the operations team to prioritize repairs and minimize vehicle downtime.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior mechanics or apprentices as required.
- Adhere strictly to all workshop safety procedures and environmental regulations.
- Perform emergency roadside assistance and repairs when necessary.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a heavy vehicle mechanic, preferably with buses or large commercial vehicles.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities for mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in engine repair, transmission systems, brake systems, and hydraulics.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
- Familiarity with various types of diagnostic equipment and tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Valid Class 1 Journeyman Certificate in Motor Mechanics or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license, preferably Class 1 or 2 with a valid Defensive Driving Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or higher qualification in Automotive Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with fleet management software and digital diagnostic tools.
- Knowledge of ZUPCO specific vehicle models and maintenance protocols.
- First Aid certification.
