Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Heavy Equipment Spotter to join a critical project team in Pemba, Cabo Delgado Province. This role is fundamental to ensuring the safe and efficient movement of heavy machinery on construction and industrial sites. As a Heavy Equipment Spotter, you will be the eyes and ears for operators, guiding their movements and preventing potential hazards.
Your primary objective will be to provide clear, concise, and continuous communication to heavy equipment operators, especially in areas with limited visibility or where ground crews are present. This includes, but is not limited to, excavators, bulldozers, cranes, and haul trucks. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe working distance between equipment and personnel, identifying obstacles, and ensuring the smooth flow of operations. This is a hands-on role that requires constant situational awareness, quick decision-making skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide constant visual and verbal guidance to heavy equipment operators during all phases of operation, including loading, unloading, positioning, and movement.
- Act as a critical communication link between equipment operators and ground personnel, utilizing hand signals, two-way radios, and other communication methods.
- Monitor the immediate work area for potential hazards, including other equipment, personnel, utilities, and unstable ground conditions.
- Identify and communicate blind spots to operators, ensuring all movements are executed safely and accurately.
- Assist in the establishment and enforcement of exclusion zones around active heavy equipment.
- Conduct pre-shift site walks to identify potential risks and communicate them to the team.
- Participate actively in daily safety briefings and contribute to a proactive safety culture.
- Report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or near-misses immediately to site management.
- Ensure compliance with all site-specific safety regulations and company policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment spotter or in a similar safety-critical role.
- Excellent visual acuity and spatial awareness.
- Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including proficiency in hand signals.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure outdoor environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of heavy equipment operation and site safety protocols.
- Ability to identify and mitigate potential hazards quickly.
- Physical fitness to stand, walk, and communicate for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Commitment to maintaining a drug-free and alcohol-free workplace.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid certification in Heavy Equipment Spotting or similar safety training.

- Proficiency in Portuguese (spoken and understood) in addition to English.
