Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a leading industrial operation within a thriving industrial estate in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. This professional role is critical in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs that adhere to national regulations and international best practices, safeguarding the well-being of hundreds involved in critical industrial processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems aligned with national regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and hazard analyses across the industrial estate to identify potential risks and implement preventive measures.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and recommending effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors on topics such as emergency procedures, chemical safety, machinery operation, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and company policies.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and crisis management procedures.
  • Monitor and report on key safety performance indicators, preparing regular reports for management.
  • Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with departmental managers and engineers to integrate safety into new projects, processes, and equipment installations.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety training, inspections, incidents, and other relevant documentation.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and best practices (e.g., OSHA, local Jamaican regulations).
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, hazard analyses, and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively train and influence staff at all levels.
  • Ability to develop and implement robust H&S policies and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma/Certificate, CSP, CHSO, or equivalent local certifications).
  • Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing processes.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
