Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems aligned with national regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and hazard analyses across the industrial estate to identify potential risks and implement preventive measures.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and recommending effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors on topics such as emergency procedures, chemical safety, machinery operation, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and company policies.
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and crisis management procedures.
- Monitor and report on key safety performance indicators, preparing regular reports for management.
- Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with departmental managers and engineers to integrate safety into new projects, processes, and equipment installations.
- Maintain accurate records of safety training, inspections, incidents, and other relevant documentation.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and best practices (e.g., OSHA, local Jamaican regulations).
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, hazard analyses, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively train and influence staff at all levels.
- Ability to develop and implement robust H&S policies and procedures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma/Certificate, CSP, CHSO, or equivalent local certifications).
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing processes.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
