Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Maintenance Mechanic with expertise in equipment repair to join our operations in Formby, Liverpool. This pivotal role involves ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of our diverse range of industrial machinery and facilities equipment. As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be the backbone of our operational reliability, responsible for preventing downtime, diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues, and executing timely, effective repairs. We are looking for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses a meticulous eye for detail, and demonstrates a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Your day-to-day will involve a blend of scheduled preventative maintenance tasks designed to extend the lifespan of our assets, as well as responding to urgent breakdown calls, where your diagnostic prowess will be critical. You’ll work with a variety of tools and systems, from hydraulic and pneumatic components to electrical controls and precision mechanical systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on industrial machinery, production equipment, and facility systems according to established schedules and procedures to maximize operational efficiency and equipment longevity.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on a wide range of equipment, utilizing schematics, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
  • Execute timely and effective repairs, including replacing defective parts, adjusting mechanisms, and calibrating systems to restore equipment to optimal working condition.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment to identify potential problems before they escalate into major breakdowns.
  • Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately, including parts used, time spent, and issues resolved, using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies, implementing safe work practices at all times.
  • Collaborate with production teams and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize operational disruption.
  • Assist in the installation, relocation, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to maintenance procedures and equipment reliability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage of tools and spare parts.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Mechanic in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical (up to 480V), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with various hand and power tools, as well as specialized diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and machining techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick welding).
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, PLCs, and motor controls.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to safety practices and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant vocational training or qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, City & Guilds in Electrical Engineering).
  • Certification in specific maintenance areas (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics, welding).
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Forklift operator certification.
  • Experience working with heavy machinery or automated production lines.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
