As the Director of Distribution, you will be at the helm of our entire distribution strategy and execution. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our supply chain logistics, including warehousing, inventory management, transportation, and last-mile delivery. Your expertise will drive the continuous improvement of our distribution processes, leveraging cutting-edge technology and best practices to enhance operational performance and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive distribution strategies to optimize supply chain efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Oversee all aspects of logistics operations, including warehousing, inventory management, transportation (road, rail, sea), and export/import compliance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing distribution team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Manage and negotiate contracts with third-party logistics providers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure favorable terms and service levels.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring adherence to financial targets and identifying areas for cost optimization.
  • Implement and leverage advanced logistics technologies and systems to enhance tracking, visibility, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local, national, and international shipping regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to distribution, analyze performance data, and generate reports for senior management.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, sales, finance, and procurement teams to align distribution activities with overall business objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate risks within the distribution network, including potential disruptions, delays, and compliance issues.

Required Skills

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in logistics and supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale distribution operations, preferably in mining, heavy industry, or bulk commodities.
  • Strong understanding of international trade, customs regulations, and global logistics networks.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, budget management, and cost control.
  • Proficiency in logistics software, ERP systems, and data analytics tools.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MBA) in a relevant field.
  • Professional certifications such as CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) or CLTD (Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution).
  • Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Familiarity with specific regional logistics challenges and infrastructure in Southern Africa.
  • Proven track record of implementing successful distribution network optimization projects.
