Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Carpenter to join our dynamic construction team on an active building site in Tsabong, Kgalagadi District. As a Carpenter with Botswana Housing Corporation, you will be instrumental in bringing architectural designs to life, playing a crucial role in the structural integrity and aesthetic finish of our housing and commercial projects. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a comprehensive understanding of carpentry techniques and building codes. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks from framing and roofing to interior finishes, ensuring all work adheres to the highest standards of quality and safety. We are looking for an individual who takes pride in their craftsmanship, can work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and is committed to delivering exceptional results that meet BHC’s reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements for materials.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials such as wood, plywood, wallboard, and plastics.
- Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, doors, frames, flooring, trim, and hardware.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders as needed for safe access to work areas.
- Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard.
- Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures.
- Collaborate with other construction professionals, including architects, electricians, and plumbers, to ensure project timelines and specifications are met.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies on the construction site.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and ensure proper storage.
- Perform general clean-up of the work area to maintain a safe and organized site.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Carpenter on construction sites.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Excellent knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods.
- Understanding of construction safety guidelines and procedures.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform demanding tasks.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship or vocational training program.
- Valid driver's license.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with various types of construction materials beyond traditional wood.
- Knowledge of local building codes and regulations in Botswana.
