Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Butcher and Food Prep Specialist to join a dynamic team in Ébène, Mauritius. Key Responsibilities

  • Skillfully cut, trim, bone, tie, and grind various types of meat (beef, pork, lamb, poultry) according to specified recipes and customer orders.
  • Operate and maintain butchery equipment, including saws, slicers, and grinders, ensuring they are clean and in good working order.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations (HACCP, ISO 22000) to prevent cross-contamination and ensure product integrity.
  • Inspect meat for quality, freshness, and proper temperature, discarding any substandard products.
  • Prepare various value-added meat products, including marinated meats, sausages, and specialty cuts.
  • Assist in inventory management, including receiving, storing, and rotating meat products to minimize waste.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to customers regarding meat selection, cooking methods, and storage.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including daily cleaning of work surfaces and equipment.
  • Contribute to a positive team atmosphere, assisting colleagues as needed and promoting efficient workflow.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Butcher or Meat Cutter
  • In-depth knowledge of various meat cuts, types, and preparation methods
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP principles)
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining butchery equipment
  • Excellent knife skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy items
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to producing high-quality products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training or certification in Butchery or Culinary Arts
  • Experience in a retail or industrial butchery setting

  • Ability to speak French and/or Mauritian Creole
