Job Description
Estim Construction Co. Ltd. is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Contract Painter to join our dynamic team for an upcoming series of renovation projects across Dar es Salaam. This is a crucial role for individuals who possess a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and a proven track record in delivering exceptional finishes within tight deadlines. As a Painter specializing in renovation work, you will be instrumental in transforming existing spaces, bringing new life and aesthetic appeal to various properties. Your expertise will cover a broad spectrum of painting tasks, including extensive surface preparation, repair work, application of diverse paint types and finishes, and ensuring the final product meets our rigorous quality benchmarks.
This contract role requires someone who is adept at working independently while also seamlessly integrating with broader project teams, including carpenters, plasterers, and other tradespeople. You will be responsible for carefully assessing surfaces, recommending appropriate painting solutions, and executing tasks efficiently and safely. A deep understanding of different materials and their specific preparation requirements – from older plaster to modern drywall, wood, and metal – is essential. We are looking for a professional who is not only skilled in application but also in problem-solving, capable of addressing common renovation challenges such as lead paint encapsulation (where applicable and safe), moisture damage remediation, and achieving seamless transitions between old and new surfaces. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare various surfaces (walls, ceilings, trim, doors, etc.) for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, and sealing.
- Repair minor wall and ceiling imperfections such as cracks, holes, and water damage prior to paint application.
- Apply primers, paints, varnishes, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
- Mix and match paint colors and textures to achieve desired aesthetic results, often matching existing finishes in renovation contexts.
- Protect adjacent areas and surfaces from paint splatters and damage using drop cloths and masking tape.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and guidelines, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cared for and stored.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, site supervisors, and other skilled tradespeople to ensure project timelines are met.
- Inspect finished surfaces for quality, ensuring smooth, even, and consistent coats without drips, runs, or streaks.
- Provide expert advice on paint types, colors, and finishes suitable for different environments and renovation objectives.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience as a professional painter, specifically in renovation or construction.
- Proficiency in surface preparation techniques, including scraping, sanding, patching, and priming.
- Expertise in applying various types of paint (latex, oil-based, acrylic) and finishes (matte, satin, gloss).
- Skilled in using a range of painting tools and equipment, including brushes, rollers, sprayers, and scaffolding.
- Strong understanding of color theory and ability to mix/match colors accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, lifting, and working at heights.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to painting and construction sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade certificate or vocational training in painting and decorating.
- Experience with specialized finishes or decorative painting techniques.
- Familiarity with Tanzanian building codes and safety standards.
- Valid driver's license and own transportation.
