Job Description
Thaba-Tseka Hotel is immediately seeking a diligent and enthusiastic Grounds Staff member to enhance our property in Ha Makhalanyane. This vital full-time position requires an individual who possesses a genuine passion for outdoor maintenance, landscaping, and ensuring impeccable grounds. As a key member of our facilities team, you will play an instrumental role in maintaining the beauty, cleanliness, and safety of our hotel’s external areas, including gardens, lawns, pathways, and communal outdoor spaces. Your daily contributions will directly impact the first impressions and overall satisfaction of our guests, setting the tone for their stay amidst Lesotho’s breathtaking natural beauty.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive, hands-on individual with a strong work ethic and an eye for detail. You should be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment. This role is physically demanding, involving tasks such as mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, watering, minor repairs, and general upkeep of outdoor equipment and facilities. You will also assist with waste management and ensure that all areas are free from debris and hazards. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine landscaping duties including mowing, weeding, pruning, and planting of flowers, shrubs, and trees.
- Maintain lawns and garden beds, ensuring they are healthy, well-irrigated, and free from pests and diseases.
- Operate and maintain various grounds equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools, safely and efficiently.
- Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of all outdoor areas, including pathways, parking lots, and recreational spaces.
- Assist with waste removal and proper disposal of refuse.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on outdoor fixtures and furniture.
- Monitor the irrigation system and ensure proper watering schedules are followed.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while performing duties.
- Report any significant damage, hazards, or equipment malfunctions to management promptly.
- Contribute to seasonal clean-up efforts and special landscaping projects.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related outdoor maintenance role (minimum 1 year).
- Ability to operate and maintain common landscaping equipment and tools.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of plant care, lawn maintenance, and pest control.
- Understanding of safety procedures related to grounds work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a hospitality or resort environment.
- Knowledge of local flora and environmental practices in Lesotho.
- A valid driver's license (Code 8/B) for operating vehicles if required.
- Certification in horticulture or landscaping.
