Job Description
Bakhresa Group is seeking highly skilled, reliable, and safety-conscious Long Distance Truck Drivers to join our robust logistics team in Mbeya, Mbeya Region. As a vital link in our supply chain, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods across Tanzania, often covering significant distances. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., articulated trucks, trailers) for long-distance transportation of goods across various regions in Tanzania.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensuring all components are in good working order.
- Adhere strictly to all national and international traffic laws, transportation regulations, and company safety policies.
- Load and unload cargo, or oversee the loading and unloading process, ensuring proper securing and weight distribution.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, manifests, invoices, and other documentation related to cargo, deliveries, and vehicle operation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, and customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, and issues.
- Report any vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to goods immediately to management.
- Perform minor emergency repairs on the road when safe and feasible.
- Represent the company professionally at all times while on duty.
- Manage fuel consumption efficiently and maintain cleanliness of the vehicle.
Required Skills
- Valid Class CE (or equivalent) heavy-duty driving license, specific for articulated vehicles in Tanzania.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience as a long-distance truck driver.
- Clean driving record with no major accidents or traffic violations.
- Thorough knowledge of Tanzanian traffic laws and regulations.
- Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and identify potential mechanical issues.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Excellent navigation skills and familiarity with major routes across Tanzania.
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle long hours of driving and occasional manual labor.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in Defensive Driving or advanced driver training.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and minor repairs.
- Experience with specific types of cargo (e.g., dry goods, refrigerated goods, liquids).
- Knowledge of vehicle tracking systems and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Swahili.
