Job Description
Are you a skilled and dedicated pipework specialist looking for a challenging opportunity within a dynamic mining environment? Blanket Mine is seeking a highly competent Pipework Installation Specialist to join our engineering team in Filabusi, Matabeleland South Province. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the precise installation, maintenance, and repair of various piping systems essential for our mining operations. This includes systems for water distribution, slurry transport, ventilation, compressed air, and process fluid handling. Your expertise will ensure the safe and efficient flow of materials and utilities throughout our extensive mining infrastructure, directly contributing to our operational efficiency and safety standards. Key Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair various types of pipe systems, including steel, PVC, HDPE, and specialized alloys, according to blueprints, schematics, and relevant safety codes.
- Perform precise measurements, cutting, threading, bending, and welding of pipes and fittings.
- Conduct pressure tests on newly installed or repaired pipe systems to ensure leak-free operation.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues in existing pipework, identifying solutions for repairs and upgrades.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work permits.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, foremen, and other tradespersons to ensure seamless project execution.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment serviced.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including welding machines, pipe cutters, threading machines, and heavy lifting gear.
- Ensure quality control throughout all stages of pipework installation and maintenance.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members when required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in pipefitting, welding (SMAW, GMAW, etc.), and pipe installation in an industrial or mining setting.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and P&ID diagrams.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in using various hand and power tools associated with pipework.
- Excellent understanding of industrial safety protocols and procedures, particularly in confined spaces and at heights.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in various environmental conditions.
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification or certification in Pipefitting, Welding, or a related field.
- Experience with HDPE fusion welding.
- Previous experience working in a gold mining environment.
- Valid driver's license.
- First Aid and Basic Fire Fighting certification.
